The All-Star Team Behind the Recording of “Brittle”

The recording of “Brittle” brought together an incredible group of producers, engineers, and collaborators who helped shape the song from its earliest recordings through to the final master. The track was recorded across multiple studios in Ontario before being mixed and mastered in Toronto.

The talented professionals involved in the project are more than just collaborators — they have become trusted partners and friends who continue to help elevate Treading Zero’s sound.

João Carvalho — Mastering

João Carvalho began his mastering career in the mid-1990s while producing records for many of Canada’s groundbreaking artists. In 2003 he opened João Carvalho Mastering, and in 2011 he partnered with colleagues to launch Revolution Recording, a three-studio complex in Toronto that has become a destination for artists across the industry.

Over the years João has mastered recordings for a wide range of acclaimed artists including Rush, The Tragically Hip, k.d. lang, Carly Rae Jepsen, Sloan, Lights, BADBADNOTGOOD, The Smashing Pumpkins, Passenger, The Sheepdogs, and Buffy Sainte-Marie, among many others.

João first worked with guitarist Rob Butterwick in 2019 while mastering recordings for a previous band. Since then he has mastered every release by Treading Zero. His experience and “golden ears” continue to provide the final polish that brings the band’s recordings to life.

Ian Bodzasi — Mixing

Ian Bodzasi is a Toronto-based mixer, producer, and engineer. He began his career at the renowned Metalworks Studios, eventually becoming Head Engineer before transitioning to freelance work in 2006.

His credits include work with artists such as Katy Perry, Nelly Furtado, The Tea Party, Sum 41, Sam Roberts, Ronnie Hawkins, and Randy Bachman & Burton Cummings. As a second engineer he has also worked on projects involving Tina Turner, Aerosmith, Geddy Lee, Limp Bizkit, NSYNC, and the Academy Award-winning film Chicago.

For Brittle, Ian brought together tracks recorded across multiple studios and crafted the final mix, shaping the song into the powerful finished version heard today.

Chris Costa — Recording Engineer

Chris Costa is a recording engineer, mixer, and songwriter who owns Conjure Recording Studio in St. Thomas, Ontario. He has worked with many notable regional artists including Prosector, Mars51, Rattlesnake Hotel, Order & Entropy, Falls for the Elderly, Polluted, and All But Six.

Chris has played an important role in Treading Zero’s recent studio work, helping capture the band’s evolving heavy sound. On Brittle, he recorded the vocals and additional guitar tracks, completing the final stages of the recording process.

Siegfried Meier — Recording Producer

Siegfried Meier is a producer, engineer, mixer, and songwriter who owns Beach Road Studios, located on the shores of Lake Huron. Over his career he has worked with artists such as Kittie, Face to Face, DMX, and Helix.

The band’s relationship with Siegfried goes back many years, including earlier recordings and workshops at his studio. For Brittle, Siegfried recorded the drums and primary guitar tracks, establishing the sonic foundation for the song and organizing the multi-studio project that allowed the recording to be completed across several locations.

Aaron Murray — Recording & Production Support

Aaron Murray is an award-winning producer, engineer, mixer, and songwriter who has collaborated with members of Treading Zero for many years. Aaron recorded the bass guitar, assembled additional guitar tracks, and provided technical support throughout the production process.

His contributions helped bring the recording together while also supporting the band’s broader production and live performance setup.

The creation of Brittle was a true collaborative effort, and Treading Zero is grateful for the talent, experience, and dedication each of these professionals brought to the project.
